چکیده
A 69 year-old man, with bilateral inflamed sinonasal polyps that had been treated medically for years, referred for surgical treatment suffering from moderate progressive bilateral nasal obstruction, sinus pressure with no rhinorrhoea or other symptoms and typical bilateral inflamed polyps emerging from the middle meatus, not exceeding the level of the lower concha (Endoscopic Appearance Score of 8, Lildholdt scale grade 2 and Lund-Mackay grade 2 occupation shown on nasal endoscopy). CT requested and we maintained medical treatment with fluticasone furoate 27.5 g/day/nostril. Twenty days later, awaiting the results, the patient reported a sudden worsening of symptoms: serious nasal obstruction, rhinolalia clausa and mild spontaneous nosebleeds with massive growth of the ‘‘polyps’’, each seen from both nostrils as voluminous reddish masses, prone to bleeding, deforming the nose. The CT revealed polypoid lesions filling the nostrils with mild diffuse chronic frontal ethmoidal maxillary inflammation, with no bone erosion, infiltration or spread to adjacent structures. Respiratory Epithelial Adenomatoid Hamartoma: A Very Rare Entity Originating from the External Auditory Canal
Respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma (REAH) is an uncommon lesion of the upper aerodigestive tract. It is characterized by abnormal glandular formations with ciliated epithelium arising from the nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses and nasopharynx, but other locations have also been described. We did not find any other cases of this hamartomas in the external auditory canal in the literature...

Introduction: Thesinonasal tract is an area that may be affected by various types of neoplastic lesions with more variety than what is encountered in other parts of the upper airway and food passage. Case Report: An elderly gentleman of 65 years complained of nose block on both sides for 3 months. On examination, he had firm polypoidal masses arising from the middle me...
متن کاملLateral Nasal Wall Respiratory Epithelial Adenomatoid Hamartoma (REAH): A Diagnostic Conundrum
Introduction: This study aims to report a rare case of a respiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma (REAH) of the lateral nasal wall that had initially presented as a fungating mass, similar to that of a sinonasal malignancy, and its complete removal from the lateral nasal wall. Case Report: We report the case of a 58-year-old woman who presented to us with a chief complaint of recurrent ri...
متن کاملRespiratory epithelial adenomatoid hamartoma of the bilateral olfactory recesses: a neoplastic mimic?
REAH is a rare benign lesion of the sinonasal tract. The nasal cavity, particularly the posterior nasal septum, is the most common site of involvement. It usually occurs unilaterally and can be cured with conservative surgical resection. We present an unusual case of adenomatoid hamartoma involving bilateral olfactory recesses and discuss the importance of distinguishing this from other neoplas...
